Minnesota Credit Union Names New CEO

Steve Ewers will take over the helm at Members Cooperative CU after Tammy Heikkinen retires.

The board of directors for Members Cooperative Credit Union in Duluth, Minn., selected Steve Ewers as its new president/CEO.

He will succeed current President/CEO Tammy Heikkinen, who plans to retire after 12 years of service at the helm.

Under her executive leadership, the credit union grew in assets from $249 million in 2008 to $890 million at the end of the second quarter of this year. Membership also increased from 34,954 to 53,441.

Ewers brings more than 22 years of industry experience to Members Cooperative.

He most recently served as SVP, chief information officer for the $1.1 billion University and State Employees Credit Union in San Diego.

Ewers also held senior level IT positions at the $3.1 billion University Federal Credit Union in Austin, Texas, the $6.9 billion Ent Credit Union in Colorado Springs, Colo., the $4.4 billion Wescom Credit Union in Pasadena, Calif., and the $5.6 billion Redwood Credit Union in Santa Rosa, Calif., where he joined the credit union movement in 1998 as a vice president of IT.

Members Cooperative is Minnesota’s 10th largest credit union that employs 200 staff members and operates 12 branches.
