The $898 million Neighborhood Credit Union in Dallas said it has added $25,000 to a reward fund for information that leads to the capture and indictment of a male suspect who robbed and killed an employee of an armored vehicle and ATM service company on Monday.

Dallas Police authorized a $25,000 reward. Neighborhood CU's additional $25,000 contribution brings the total reward to $50,000.

"We are still shocked and deeply saddened by this violent attack in broad daylight on an innocent young father who was just doing his job," Chet Kimmell, president/CEO of Neighborhood CU, said in a prepared statement released late Wednesday afternoon. "Even as the Dallas Police Department investigates this terrible crime, we at Neighborhood Credit Union are doing everything in our power to help bring closure and justice for the family of Jose Montes. It is our hope that this extra incentive will motivate someone to come forward quickly with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects."

Kimmell also asked for continued prayers and support for the family of Montes, including his fiancé and five-month-old son. Kimmell said Neighborhood CU team members are contributing to the GoFundMe set up by the Montes family.

According to witnesses interviewed by Dallas police, Montes, 28, and his partner were servicing an ATM at the credit union's Oak Cliff branch on Cockrell Hill Road Monday morning when they were approached by the male suspect who was carrying a rifle and "demanded property."

The suspect shot the employee and took "the property," believed to be a duffel bag from the armored vehicle parked near the scene. The gunman fled in a white Volkswagen Passat that was driven by a female, police said.

The other employee was not injured.

Neighborhood CU's Oak Cliff branch is one of three branches that has been closed since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, though its ATM has still been operational.
