Matt Rarden was appointed president/CEO of the $836 million Kirtland Federal Credit Union in Albuquerque, N.M.

He succeeds Tom Shoemaker, who announced in June plans to retire as CEO at the end of year.

Rarden began his career in financial services in the early 1990s, working at Wachovia and Wells Fargo.

After that, he moved into the information technology space working for several Fortune 500 companies such as IBM and Convergys, where he held various finance, operational and executive management roles.

Most recently, Rarden has been serving as COO for more than six years at the $1.3 billion Premier Members Federal Credit Union in Boulder, Colo. He also served on the credit union's board of directors as vice chair and treasurer, and chaired the supervisory committee.

Kirtland's 149 employees operate six locations and serve more than 47,000 members.

The $724 million People First Federal Credit Union in Allentown, Pa., named Howard Meller president/CEO.

He will succeed CEO Jeffrey Albert, who plans to retire.

Meller will be joining People First from the $172 million GHS Federal Credit Union in Binghamton, N.Y., where he served as president/CEO since 2013.

He began his career in the financial services industry with Bank of America as vice president/ consumer marketing manager. From there, Meller joined Sun Trust Bank in Virginia, where he spent seven years as the SVP/area manager.

People First's 166 employees operate eight locations and serve more than 72,000 members.

Kevin M. Conn has been named president/CEO of the $454 million Education First Federal Credit Union in Beaumont, Texas.

He succeeded Keith A. Brenek who retired after serving as CEO for five years and COO for eight years.

Conn joined EFFCU in 2015 as EVP.

Previously, he served as an EVP and vice president of operations for the $54 million Houston Highway Credit Union and held several positions at the $1.2 billion FirstLight Federal Credit Union in El Paso, Texas.

EFFCU's 136 employees operate eight locations and serve more than 34,000 members.
