The $950 million RTN Federal Credit Union in Waltham, Mass., and the RTN GoodWorks Foundation co-sponsored and presented a virtual “Basics of Money Management” financial education seminar for 15 Africano Waltham summer interns on Aug. 12. Africano Waltham, formally known as African Cultural Services Inc., serves youth and families from Africa, primarily Uganda, who have emigrated to the U.S. and live in Waltham (a group of students and families are pictured here prior to the COVID-19 pandemic). The seminar introduced financial concepts, and topics included how to manage money you earn, plan for future earnings and think about future debt.

Practicing COVID-19 precautions, the Richard Myles Johnson Foundation/Origence Golf Classic was held Aug. 10 at the Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, Calif., and raised approximately $80,000 for the state foundation for credit unions in California and Nevada. The event attracted some 70 players. Origence, a brand of the Ontario, Calif.-based CU Direct, served as the title sponsor.
Kids and staff from the youth empowerment program Crossroads enjoy outdoor activities prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Hanscom Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Hanscom Federal Credit Union ($1.6 billion, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass.), recently made a $10,000 donation to Crossroads. The Foundation has donated a total of $60,000 since 2014 to the organization. Crossroads offers resources for economically disadvantaged youth from throughout eastern Massachusetts. Programs include residential summer camps as well as a year-round, multi-year program promoting leadership development, college and career success, and civic engagement. This year, in the wake of COVID-19, Crossroads has over 400 teens enrolled in its virtual “Leadership University,” which continues the work of its usual in-person programs of leadership development, social/emotional education, college and career exploration, and more.

The campaign supported local schools by providing needed school supplies and materials through a partnership with Crayons to Classrooms. March, who frequents the Kettering MidUSA location, was randomly selected as the winner from all of those who made donations. As she does not have any children who are currently in school, her donations truly came from the heart. She selected Dayton Christian Schools in Miamisburg, Ohio to receive an additional $500 donation from MidUSA. Through its Stuff the Bus campaign, in conjunction with Dayton, Ohio’s ABC22/FOX45 TV stations, MidUSA generated nearly 1,200 supply items that will be donated to area schools for staff and student use.

TruMark Financial partnered with the following credit unions to support the initiative to combat food insecurity: Ardent Credit Union ($811 million, Philadelphia), Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union ($1.37 billion, Chadds Ford, Pa.), Freedom Credit Union ($1 billion, Warminster, Pa.), Media Members Federal Credit Union ($66 million, Conshohocken, Penn.), Merck Sharpe & Dohme Federal Credit Union ($736 million, Chalfont, Pa.), Sun East Federal Credit Union ($745 million, Aston, Pa.), Tri County Area Federal Credit Union ($164 million, Pottstown, Pa.), Ukrainian Selfreliance Federal Credit Union ($381 million, Feasterville Trevose, Pa.) and Viriva Community Credit Union ($83 million, Warminster, Pa.). The funds will help feed 16,200 people.
