The St. Paul Minn.-based Hiway Federal Credit Union has announced a partnership with the African American Credit Union Coalition in an effort to promote racial and financial equality.

The $1.4 billion Hiway, which serves 78,000 members nationwide, partnered with the non-profit AACUC to help support the latter’s mission to increase African American involvement in the credit union industry, as well as membership opportunities and access to training and development, according to Hiway’s announcement.

In addition to strengthening the credit union movement at large, the partnership also seeks to assist in creation of education geared toward promoting wealth equity in communities of color, as well as to build partnerships between diverse communities and large credit unions.

“A commitment to diversity and equity is not new to Hiway,” Tasha Williams-Hudson, Hiway’s assistant contact center manager, said in a statement. “In fact, we put a greater focus on it last year, prior to the racial unrest of today. I often tell people that I am blessed with the management and senior management that we have at Hiway because they are steadfast in their commitment to equity and inclusion for ALL people. This partnership with the AACUC just enhances that commitment and gives us another avenue for expanding the work that we’ve already begun.”
