Credit unions support frontline workers and community members in need with meals and monetary donations.
Torrance Memorial Medical Center health care workers in Torrance, Calif., enjoy sweet treats from Kinecta Federal Credit Union’s ice cream truck. The $4.42 billion, Manhattan Beach, Calif.-based Kinecta served more than 2,700 scoops of ice cream to the health care workers during National Hospital Week from May 10-16. The health care workers also received highlighters and face masks.

In April, the $4.3 billion, San Diego-based Mission Fed launched a $50,000 match campaign encouraging community members to help the food bank, a critical lifeline for thousands of San Diegans that helps feed vulnerable families and seniors and those impacted by COVID-19. Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, the San Diego Food Bank was providing food assistance and resources to 350,000 people every month. Now, that number is over 600,000. San Diegans’ generosity contributed to the grand total of $364,146, which will provide over 1.8 million meals.

The $441 million, Milwaukie, Ore.-based Clackamas Federal Credit Union recently donated $2,500 to The Canby Center, which will aid people in the Canby area with food, housing, utilities, medical needs and employment support. Clackamas FCU is also matching donations up to $7,500 for the Clackamas Service Center in support of its Nourish Hope Campaign, which has a fundraising goal of $100,000. These funds will be used to purchase food and cover other financial needs brought on by the public health crisis.

The $2.4 billion, Fort Washington, Pa.-based TruMark Financial Credit Union recently launched a first responders’ initiative to recognize the dedication of essential employees and support small businesses. The credit union sent trays of bagels and breakfast treats, pizzas and sandwich trays from local restaurants to hospitals, police departments and ambulance companies in Pennsylvania’s Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties.

Brown was one of four students to receive an LGE 2020 Service Scholarship during a surprise visit arranged by the $1.46 billion, Atlanta-based credit union. LGE Community completed two other initiatives to support the community amid the pandemic: It delivered more than 500 lunches from four local restaurants to four local hospitals across the counties it serves, and held an internal food drive to support three local non-profit organizations – MUST Ministries in Marietta, Warehouse of Hope in Douglasville, Ga., and North Fulton Community Charities in Roswell, Ga.

The credit union delivered $10,000 worth of Togo’s Sandwiches to Anaheim Kaiser Permanente medical workers on May 21.
