CUNA Hit by 'Cyber Incident' Causing Outage of Some IT Systems
Though there is no evidence of a data breach, the trade organization says it’s in close contact with the FBI and is cooperating with its investigation.
CUNA said Tuesday it was addressing what it described as a “cyber incident” that recently caused an outage affecting some of the trade organization’s IT systems.
“Once we discovered the incident, we immediately initiated an investigation with the assistance of third-party experts and are taking steps to remediate the issue,” CUNA said in a statement. “This is a business disruption issue. CUNA does not store Social Security numbers or credit card numbers of our members.”
Based on CUNA’s investigation as of Tuesday afternoon, it has found no evidence to suggest that any data in its system – such as names, businesses addresses and email addresses – have been accessed.
“CUNA is in close contact with the FBI and fully cooperating with their investigation,” CUNA said in its prepared statement. “We regret any inconvenience this may cause and are working diligently to restore our systems as quickly as we can and to put in measures to support our League partners and members. Our investigation remains ongoing.”
CUNA did not report in its statement when the cyber incident was initially discovered, which IT systems were affected and in what specific ways the event was affecting its operations. The trade group also did not indicate when the impacted IT systems would be restored.
On its home page, CUNA posted a brief statement that it was working nonstop to get its systems back online.
“While we continue to fix the problem, we’re available at hello@cuna.coop if you need anything,” the post reads.
