Credit unions get into the holiday spirit by donating toys, footwear and other goods to people in need.

CU of Georgia

Whatley spearheaded the drive and it was more successful than anticipated, with 782 rolls of toilet paper being collected. The credit union first supported the Cherokee County Volunteer Aging Council this fall by sponsoring the nonprofit’s inaugural golf tournament that helped raise more than $21,000.

OnPoint Community CU

For three consecutive years, OnPoint has made donations on behalf of each of its employees to select organizations that make a difference in the community. This year, employees directed $100 to three different organizations – with many opting to split their donation – resulting in gifts of $32,520 to Meals on Wheels People, $20,437 to JOIN and $20,370 to Neighborhood House.

Baton Rouge Area CUs

Baton Rouge area credit union representatives gather at the 16th Annual Baton Rouge Area Credit Union Charity Golf Tournament on Oct. 28 at Pelican Point Golf and Country Club in Gonzales, La. The $331 million Baton Rouge Telco Federal Credit Union, $658 million Campus Federal Credit Union, $520 million EFCU Financial Federal Credit Union, $510 million La Capitol Federal Credit Union, $930 million Neighbors Federal Credit Union and $397 million Pelican State Credit Union joined together to host the golf tournament raising a record $59,605 for Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. This total includes a $10,000 Miracle Match from CO-OP Financial Services. Miracle Match is a national philanthropic matching program that encourages credit unions to fundraise for local Children Miracle Network Hospitals such as Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. Over the last nine years, the golf tournament has raised more than $320,000 for Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital.

Mid-Hudson Valley FCU

Staff from the $1 billion Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union in Kingston, N.Y., pose for a photo with students from Middletown High School. The credit union was a proud partner of Middletown High School’s inaugural Career Readiness Symposium. Mid-Hudson Valley staff presented to students within the high school’s Financial Academy on financial education, how to “adult” effectively and how to manage their social media presence. Staff then participated in mock interviews with the students, reviewing the resumes and providing pointers for answering interview questions effectively.

Texas Trust CU

Texas Trust branches served as collection points for the toy drive. Members and employees donated the toys, which Texas Trust loaded into its 1956 restored school bus and delivered them to the Toys for Tots collection center. Since 2011, Texas Trust has supported Toys for Tots, giving $40,000 to date to the organization along with thousands of toys each year.

America First CU

Gibson Middle School students open gift-wrapped shoes on Dec. 2. The $11.5 billion America First Credit Union in Riverdale, Utah delivered new gym shoes and socks as part of its annual “Warm the Soles of Kids” program. About three dozen Gibson Middle School students received correctly-fitting gym shoes and socks as part of the program. The credit union, which hosted a festive holiday celebration complete with lunch, expects more than 219 students in Nevada and 2,016 students in Utah to receive new shoes and socks over the coming weeks. Last year alone, America First donated more than 1,900 pairs of shoes to students in need in Nevada and Utah.
