Raleigh, N.C.-based SECU has donated $1 million to help renovate an addiction recovery facility in Winston-Salem.
The donation will help the Addiction Recovery Care Association (ARCA) provide more housing, counseling services, treatment and recovery programs, educational support and outreach efforts to people in a 37-county area who are coping with of affected by substance abuse, according to an announcement from the credit union.
"ARCA's strong commitment to providing North Carolinians with greater access to addiction recovery programs and services brings even more hope to those in need," former SECU Foundation board member and current advisory board volunteer Michael Clements said. "Credit union members who fund the SECU Foundation share in that commitment, and we take great pride in building strong partnerships with organizations like ARCA, allowing us to work together to help create a positive impact in communities across the state."
ARCA, which has offered services for nearly 50 years, puts 10 to 20 people on a waiting list every day due to a lack of beds in its current facility. The donation will help add 32 beds, the announcement said.
"ARCA welcomes the opportunity to join with SECU Foundation in planting the seeds of hope in our community," ARCA Executive Director Thom Elmore said. "We believe everyone deserves the right to change — we are very grateful for this generous gift that will allow us to grow and serve even more."
SECU has $41 billion in assets and about 2.5 million members.
