7 Credit Unions Honor, Hire & Promote Employees
Guadalupe CU, APGFCU and Corporate Central CU are among the credit unions sharing employee advancements this week.
WEST
RCU Services Group, a subsidiary of the $4.8 billion Redwood Credit Union in Santa Rosa, Calif., promoted John Wheatley to vice president of RCU Insurance Services, the credit union’s insurance agency. In his new role, Wheatley will manage the daily operations of the insurance agency, including oversight of sales and customer service, staffing, training, vendor relationships and promotions. The longtime insurance professional has more than 26 years of experience in insurance services and management.
The $1 billion Credit Union 1 in Rantoul, Ill., selected Todd Gunderson as president/CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2020. Gunderson will succeed Paul Simons, longtime president/CEO, who will serve on the board of directors for the credit union. Prior to being named president/CEO, Gunderson served as Credit Union 1s’ EVP and COO, overseeing branch operations, the call center, sales, marketing and facilities. With 25 years of industry experience including serving in executive leadership roles at Wells Fargo, Gunderson has expertise in strategic planning, risk management and lending operations.
Linda Medina, board chair at the $180 million Guadalupe Credit Union in Santa Fe, N.M., was named the 2019 CUES Distinguished Director. A board member for 17 years, Medina played a key role in developing the credit union’s current mission to help its membership base become financially empowered. Medina’s passion to serve the surrounding community, which includes many recent immigrants and the underserved, was key in keeping the credit union focused on this mission and vision. As a result, Guadalupe became a Community Development Financial Institution and has since received over $3.8 million in funding.
EAST
The $1.4 billion APG Federal Credit Union in Edgewood, Md., hired two longtime business banking experts from Maryland’s Harford and Cecil counties.
Deborah Williams was hired as vice president of commercial services in preparation for the credit union’s launch of its revamped business accounts, which became available to the business community in July 2019. APGFCU continues to add value to its product offerings and is planning the launch of its business lending products in 2020.
A long-standing member of the Cecil County business community, Tracy Reynolds was hired as the commercial deposit manager to serve the growing needs of this business community.
Williams has a long history in business banking, having worked for local institutions where she led commercial banking efforts in the Northeast and Harford County markets. Williams is the immediate past chair of the Harford County Chamber of Commerce and an emeritus board member for the Harford Community College Foundation Board. She serves as a board member for the Harford County Public Library Foundation and Rockfield Foundation.
MIDWEST
The $2 billion Corporate Central Credit Union in Muskego, Wis., hired Michael Baumann as a member services representative. Baumann is responsible for providing superior member service and assisting members with questions related to products and services. Additionally, Baumann serves as a liaison between members and staff to facilitate proactive relationship development. Baumann has prior credit union experience, working for the $277 million Park City Credit Union in Merrill, Wis., as a youth apprentice and serving three internships with the credit union throughout his college career. Additionally, he has former experience with a computer software company.
The $2.6 billion Royal Credit Union in Eau Claire, Wis., named Emily Walton business process improvement manager. In this role, she is responsible for leading the analysis of operational processes to drive enhancements and efficiencies into Royal’s operations. This includes oversight for process improvement and project management programs and the strategic implementation of automated workflow. In addition, Walton leads a team of business process analysts and project managers. Walton joined Royal in March of 2009 and has served in a variety of roles.
SOUTH
The $1.2 billion Y-12 Federal Credit Union in Oak Ridge, Tenn., hired two employees.
Courtland Crouchet was hired as chief experience officer. Crouchet has worked in the credit union industry his entire career and is passionate about serving employees and members. He most recently served as SVP and chief retail officer for the $3.4 billion Texas Dow Employees Credit Union in Lake Jackson, Texas, where he oversaw 35 branches, the contact center, digital banking, business development and four wholly-owned CUSOs.
Lynn Boston was hired as vice president of human resources and talent development.
Boston has more than 15 years of human resources experience in addition to several years in the financial services industry. Boston has led HR operations for several large organizations and most recently worked as a senior HR consultant. She earned a bachelor’s of arts in English from the University of North Florida and a master’s of science in human resources management from Capella University.
