Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.), who as a member of the House Financial Services Committee has opposed much of the work done by the CFPB, announced Monday he will resign from the House next month.

“Recently, we’ve learned that our baby, due in late October, will need even more love, time, and attention due to complications, including a heart condition,” Duffy said on his Facebook page Monday morning. “With much prayer, I have decided that this is the right time for me to take a break from public service in order to be the support my wife, baby and family need right now.”

Duffy, first elected in 2010, is well known in the credit union community.

In fact, earlier on the same day he announced his resignation, Duffy was announced as a speaker at the NAFCU Congressional Caucus conference next month.

Duffy is the ranking Republican on the Housing, Community Development and Insurance Subcommittee and is the former chairman of the Financial Services Committee’s Investigations and Oversight Subcommittee.
