This week’s news includes a gift of cookware for veterans who recently completed culinary classes.
Employees from the $4.6 billion Desert Financial Credit Union in Phoenix, Ariz., present two of 15 $1,078.75 checks to U.S. Vets and Rebuilding Together. The photo represents a larger afternoon of service where nearly 150 Desert Financial leadership team members volunteered at 15 area non-profits in a drive that celebrated the credit union’s 80th anniversary. Nearly 600 hours of service later, each non-profit had key projects completed and a parting surprise – $1,078.75 donated by Desert Financial in honor of the 15 teachers who founded Desert Financial 80 years ago with just $78.75 between them.

For the second consecutive year, the $1.4 billion Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union in Lowell, Mass., partnered with Lowell Humane Society and the Greater Lowell Family YMCA to offer a summer reading program, which allows kids the opportunity to visit with animals at the shelter and read to them.

The NWFCU Foundation raised $100,000 for a scholarship program at the golf tournament. The money raised from the event will benefit the NWFCU Foundation Scholarship Fund, which has awarded scholarships to college-bound students since 2005, totaling close to $1.4 million.

In this recent community outreach project, Tarrant County’s CU staff and members collectively donated more than $2,000 in cookware and prepared dry soup mixes to help local veterans in need.
Deborah Fancher, business development team member at the $518 million Peach State Federal Credit Union in Lawrenceville, Ga., delivers non-perishable food items to Hazel Bennett, volunteer coordinator at the Salvation Army of Gwinnett. Peach State collects non-perishable food items in each of its 25 branches throughout the year. Donations are collected quarterly and delivered to a food bank in the credit union’s service area.
Staff from the $630 million AltaOne Federal Credit Union in Ridgecrest, Calif., hand out much-needed supplies to the local community in the Ridgecrest region, where three major earthquakes have struck over the past few weeks. The credit union recently created AltaCares to provide financial support for local nonprofits and other agencies in an effort to meet the immediate needs of community members, and to provide feet on the ground for deliveries of goods, outreach at community events and manpower for general clean-up in the aftermath of the recent earthquakes.
