Suffolk FCU Inks Naming Rights Deal
The credit union will also be able to promote its services at events and student job fairs.
Medford, N.Y.-based Suffolk Federal Credit Union has signed a naming rights deal with the largest community college in the State University of New York system, according to an announcement from the credit union.
The deal will rename Suffolk County Community College’s health, sports & education center to the Suffolk Federal Credit Union Arena. The 60,000-square-foot facility, which is on the school’s Brentwood campus, includes multi-purpose courts, sporting fields, indoor and outdoor running tracks, a swimming pool and a fitness center. Financial terms were not disclosed.
“The Suffolk Federal Credit Union Arena will not only serve as the Home of the Sharks but will continue to serve as a destination for community groups, professional organizations, trade associations and of course, the students of Suffolk County Community College,” Suffolk Community College Foundation Chairperson Belinda Alvarez Groneman said. “This landmark partnership joins two great organizations of our region and I am grateful for the support of the men and women of the Suffolk Federal Credit Union for their generosity and commitment to our community college.”
In addition to signage changes inside and outside the arena, the credit union’s logo will be displayed on the court floor. The credit union will also be able to promote its services at events and student job fairs, as well as on event materials, including schedules, student and alumni publications and brochures. In addition, Suffolk FCU signage will appear at gym facilities on the school’s Riverhead and Selden campuses.
The credit union recently provided six local graduating high school seniors with $30,000 in scholarships to attend the community college, which has over 26,000 students on five campuses. Suffolk FCU has $1.1 billion in assets and about 61,000 members.
“Suffolk Federal’s funding demonstrates in a powerful way their commitment to the young men and woman of Suffolk County and to the societal benefits that flow from an educated and trained workforce,” Suffolk Community College EVP Louis Petrizzo added.
Several other credit unions have entered into naming-rights deals recently, though few of those deals have been with community colleges.
In just the last few months, for example, Fort Washington, Penn.-based TruMark Financial Credit Union recently entered into a deal making it the official credit union of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, and St. Louis-based American Eagle Credit Union signed a multi-year partnership with the St. Louis Blues hockey team for a new seating area at the city’s Enterprise Center. Edwardsville, Ill.-based Scott Credit Union also inked a five-year deal for advertising in the Enterprise Center. VyStar Credit Union signed a deal with the City of Jacksonville, Fla., to rename a local venue the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.
TruMark Financial Credit Union has $2.3 billion in assets and about 120,000 members. Scott Credit Union has $1.3 billion in assets and about 143,000 members. VyStar Credit Union has $8.6 billion in assets and about 658,000 members.
