CU Donations Benefit Pets, the Homeless & Cancer Research

Since 1946, the Humane Society of Pulaski County, located in Little Rock, has been making a difference in the lives of domestic animals in Central Arkansas. The mission of the Humane Society of Pulaski County is to rescue, rehabilitate, provide veterinary care, spay/neuter and find loving homes for Central Arkansas dogs and cats in need. In addition, Telcoe makes a monthly social media “Spotlight for HSPC” in hopes of helping all these adorable animals get adopted.
Members of #TeamHanscomFCU participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life on June 8, 2019 in Burlington, Mass. The $1.3 billion Hanscom Federal Credit Union in Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., set another fundraising record for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event. #TeamHanscomFCU raised $15,983 in support of cancer care and research. The total includes Hanscom FCU’s matching donation of $6,544 and a $1,000 event sponsorship. This year’s fundraising was up more than 25% from 2018, when the team raised $12,698.

Nearly 120 walkers, volunteers and staff participated in the 5k walk events that took place simultaneously in three locations – Danvers Rail Trail, Dorchester Park and Waltham Common. Each walk began with an opening program featuring remarks from local officials, and senior executives from the credit union and coalition. Walk Home donations from members, staff, community organizations and business sponsors are collected through the RTN GoodWorks Foundation and donated to help homeless teens and families in Danvers, Dorchester and Waltham, and support the work of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless and its A Bed for Every Child Program. So far, more than $19,000 has been raised through Walk Home 2019 and counting. There will be an official ceremony in September to give this year’s Walk Home funds to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.

By working with partner organizations, the Sacramento Promise Zone facilitates cross-sector collaboration to improve educational outcomes, foster a sustainable economic base, accelerate job creation, promote healthy behaviors and support sustainable built communities. Through its partnership with the Sacramento Promise Zone, SAFE will provide financial education opportunities for residents to help them improve their financial well-being.

The board of directors for the $1.5 billion, Austin, Texas-based A+FCU awarded 50 Central Texas high school and college students with $100,000 in scholarships for the 2019-2020 school year. The scholarships have been an A+FCU tradition since 1984. Each student receives $2,000 to help with educational expenses. The 50 recipients were selected for their academic achievements and community involvement and represent 34 high schools and six colleges.

Mitchell raised more than $10,000 through individual and corporate contributions. She also partnered with local restaurants, MaGerks Bel Air and Island Spice Grill and Lounge. The restaurants generously donated 20% of the proceeds of each “dine and donate” event to Mitchell’s fundraising efforts. Mitchell came in first place in the “judges’ choice” competition among nine other contestants. The Maryland Center for the Arts provides a broad range of creative and collaborative experiences in all forms of the arts. Funds raised from the gala will contribute to providing access to the needed space to present, exhibit and participate in the arts.
