Credit Unions, CU* Answers Reveal Employee Advancements
Seven credit unions recognize new hires, promotions and employee accolades.
WEST
The $1.8 billion Sound Credit Union in Tacoma, Wash., hired two employees.
Ryan Zilker was hired as vice president of marketing. Zilker brings more than 24 years of experience in credit union and marketing roles to the position. His credit union experience includes a wide array of positions such as branch and call center, lending, operations and market research. In his most recent role, Zilker spent three years as the head of marketing for Western Growers, a trade association representing fresh fruit, vegetable and nut farmers.
Derrick Borgmann was hired as vice president of talent management. Borgmann comes to Sound CU from Braganza Tea Co. where he recently served as regional director of stores. Prior that he spent more than six years as regional manager at Kroger. Borgmann’s expertise includes human resources/operations, talent acquisition, process/policy development, strategic planning and cultural development.
MIDWEST
The $2.6 billion First Community Credit Union in Chesterfield, Mo., promoted two employees.
Phil Hanna was promoted to vice president of finance. Hanna has worked at First Community since 1996 and has a wide variety of experience in several roles including internal auditor, manager of accounting, assistant vice president of finance and most recently, vice president, controller.
Jessica Royce was promoted to assistant vice president of accounting. Royce has been with First Community since 2013 and has more than 11 years of accounting experience. She previously served as manager of accounting.
TCU Insurance Agency, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the $3.2 billion Teachers Credit Union in South Bend, Ind., hired Rick Van Es as president. Van Es joined TCU after 20 years as managing director of CrossRoads Business Advisors LLC where he also served as an independent contractor for TCU. Previously, Van Es was president/CFO of American Electronic Components, Inc.
The Credit Union Association of the Dakotas named Stephanie Finck, COO at the $819 million First Community Credit Union in Jamestown, N.D., credit union professional of the year. Finck received the honor at an awards banquet held at the Delta Marriott Conference Center during the CUAD Summit in Fargo. The credit union professional of the year award recognizes a credit union employee from North Dakota or South Dakota who deserves commendation for their contributions to advance the credit union movement in their state and the nation.
SOUTH
The $867 million Orion Federal Credit Union in Memphis, Tenn., hired Frank Stallworth to its executive team as EVP of commercial real estate. Stallworth has more than 25 years of experience in commercial and multi-family real estate lending in the mid-South, most recently with Pinnacle Financial Partners. He began his career as a banker and has since led the commercial real estate divisions of several successful financial institutions.
The $40 billion State Employees’ Credit Union in Raleigh, N.C., appointed Mark Fleming to the credit union’s board of directors. Fleming will fill the seat of Jim Johnson, who served on the Board from 2001 until his retirement in April 2019. Fleming also serves as a current member of the SECU Foundation Board of Directors and previously served on the SECU Nominating Committee. He is the vice president of government affairs for BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina.
The $1.6 billion Sharonview Federal Credit Union in Fort Mill, S.C., promoted Rondel Hartwell to SVP of marketing, communications and member engagement. Hartwell now serves on the executive leadership team, reporting to President/CEO Bill Partin. Hartwell’s notable work has included directing the company-wide rebrand that debuted on Dec. 8, 2016 and the creation of Sharonview’s first TV commercial, which aired during the 2017 Super Bowl.
CUSOS
CU*Answers, a cooperative CUSO and core data processor, promoted two employees.
Ken Vaughn was promoted to vice president of Mobile Technologies Group product design and business development. In his new role, Vaughn will continue to drive the success of MTG with a focus on the management and aggressive expansion of CU*Answers’ mobile products and cross team solutions. Vaughn began his career at CU*Answers in 2011 as a front-end developer and UI architect for the ASP team. In 2017, he was asked to merge the talents and improve cross-team development processes of both the mobile app development and online banking teams to form the web and mobile development team.
Kristian Daniel was promoted to vice president of MTG sales and business development. In Daniel’s new role, he will continue to drive the business direction and growth of online ordering, as well as facilitating the marketing and educational opportunities for self-service MTG products and services.
