7 Credit Unions, NAFCU, CUES Recognize Talent
This week’s People news includes the retirement of a CEO who served Sun FCU for 39 years.
WEST
The $4.4 billion Redwood Credit Union in Santa Rosa, Calif., hired Sunni York as marketing manager. In her new role, York oversees the staff and daily operations of the credit union’s marketing department, including brand and product promotions, advertising, online and other marketing efforts for the North Bay and San Francisco counties RCU serves. York is a seasoned marketing professional with more than 19 years of experience in marketing management at companies such as Nice & Company, DDB & Tribal DDB, Heat, Havas Creative and Haggin Marketing.
The $2.2 billion Numerica Credit Union in Spokane Valley, Wash., hired Jay Almaguer to the home loan team as senior home loan officer in the Tri-Cities market. Almaguer has more than 20 years of experience in the mortgage and financial industry. His specialty is helping first-time homebuyers with down payment assistance programs. Almaguer was previously a Community Reinvestment Act mortgage loan officer for US Bank, where he earned the Legends of Possible award for 2018.
MIDWEST
The $93 million Hopewell Federal Credit Union in Heath, Ohio, hired two new employees.
Ashleigh Armstrong, a resident of Heath, was hired as a teller. Currently, she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Central Ohio Technical College in Newark, Ohio. She previously served as an accounting assistant, which will provide her a wealth of knowledge in her new role.
Matthew Browning, also a resident of Heath, was hired as a teller. He is currently pursuing a degree in radiology from Central Ohio Technical College in Newark, Ohio. Prior to settling in Heath, Browning worked as a laborer and customer service representative for Americas Best Siding in Mansfield, Ohio.
The $511 million Sun Federal Credit Union in Maumee, Ohio, announced Gary Moritz, president/CEO, is retiring after 39 years of service with the credit union, the last 30 years as president/CEO. Moritz helped lead the transformation of Sun FCU to become a cooperative with $511 million in assets, 12 branches located in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and 132 mission-driven employees.
Sun FCU’s board of directors appointed Brian W. Hughes as the new president/CEO. Hughes has more than 23 years of experience in the financial industry. He began his career at Sun FCU as a vice president of finance before being promoted to EVP and then to president/CEO.
The $96 million First Financial Credit Union in Skokie, Ill., promoted William J. Lump to EVP/CFO. Lump began his career at Ernst & Young, initially in the assurance practice providing audit services, and subsequently in the transaction advisory service practice providing financial due diligence services to strategic and private equity acquirers. After leaving Ernst & Young, Lump entered the private equity industry, first at Prism Capital and then at Prospect Partners, both of which are Chicago, Ill.-based.
The $161 million Service One Credit Union in Bowling Green, Ky., named Jason Ross branch manager of the Campbell Lane Branch. Ross comes to Service One with more than 16 years of consumer and business retail banking and lending experience in the south-central Kentucky area.
SOUTH
The $3.1 billion Coastal Credit Union in Raleigh, N.C., announced the addition of three mortgage business development officers who will work directly with buyers to help guide them through the home buying process.
Paige Donnald brings 18 years of mortgage lending experience to the team. She is a longtime Raleigh resident and graduate of Wake Forest University.
Seema Parmar-Sturkie is a North Carolina native and NC State graduate. She has more than 16 years of experience in mortgage lending.
Ruth Williams has 23 years of experience as a loan officer and mortgage processor. She brings both banking and credit union expertise to the team and is specialized in construction lending.
TRADES
NAFCU promoted Ann Kossachev to director of regulatory affairs. Kossachev previously served as the association’s senior regulatory affairs counsel. As director, Kossachev will oversee NAFCU’s advocacy on various regulatory developments from federal agencies, including the NCUA, CFPB and Federal Housing Finance Agency. Prior to joining NAFCU, Kossachev worked at a law firm focusing on complex commercial litigation.
CUES hired Tanya Mueller Smith as manager, member relations and sales support – Canada. Smith will be instrumental to the continued success of CUES’ Canadian engagement. Smith previously worked at Central 1, where she worked on various teams providing consulting services and project management support to credit unions including the support of the National Credit Card Program.
