Credit Unions in Wisconsin, Kansas, Idaho and Texas recently appointed new CEOs.

The Altra Federal Credit Union in Onalaska, Wis. named Steve Koenen as its new president/CEO after current President/CEO Jack Peplinski retires in April.

Peplinski joined Altra in 1985 serving on the board of directors for five years as treasurer. He then joined the credit union in 1990 as an employee and was named president/CEO in December 2011.

Under his leadership, Altra grew from $840 million to $1.5 billion in assets, from 69,463 to 102,054 in members and from 206 to 390 employees. Altra is Wisconsin's 10th largest credit union.

Koenen, who serves as the credit union's current executive vice president of retail operations, brings more than 30 years of banking knowledge and experience in branch operations, sales, sales management, innovation, member experience, and product design and delivery.

Deonne Christensen was appointed president/CEO of the $661 million Mazuma Credit Union in Overland Park, Kan.

She served as the interim CEO after Brandon Michaels became president/CEO for the $2.1 billion JSC Federal Credit Union in Houston in September 2018.

With more than 25 years of banking experience, Christensen transitioned into the role of chief experience officer in May 2018 after previously serving as COO for the credit union that operates 10 branches and serves more than 64,000 members.

Before joining Mazuma in March 2013, she worked as a regional manager for $1.2 billion Kitsap Credit Union in Brementon, Wash.

Christensen also served as a branch manager and business banker for U.S. Bank and as an investment banker for U.S. Bancorp Investments.

The $238 million Idaho State University Credit Union in Pocatello appointed Douglas Chambers as president/CEO.

Since December, he has served as ISU Credit Union's interim CEO replacing Robert Taylor.

Chambers joined the credit union in 2014 and served as its senior vice president and chief operations officer.

He previously worked as a vice president of branch services at the $1.4 billion Columbia Credit Union in Vancouver, Wash., and as a regional manager and performance coach for the $4.3 billion Idaho Central Credit Union in Chubbuck.

Shalonda Dawkins was named president/CEO of the $90.3 million Southern Federal Credit Union's in Houston, Texas.

She replaced Jeanne Walker.

Dawkins previously served as senior vice president and chief operations officer at the $101 million United Community Credit Union. At that Houston-based credit union, she also worked as vice president of marketing and business development.

She also worked as a corporate marketing officer for Comerica and as a business development representative for the $693 million Smart Financial Credit Union also based in Houston.
