The Michigan Credit Union League is mourning the passing of former MCUL President/CEO Ken Bixby.

He died Jan. 20 after a six-month illness, the Michigan league said in a statement Wednesday.

"MCUL joins the Michigan credit union community in mourning the loss of longtime colleague Ken Bixby," MCUL President/CEO Dave Adams said. "We express our heartfelt condolences to Marge and the rest of Ken's family and friends. Through his long and dedicated credit union career, Ken made a big impact in our Michigan community and nationally."

Ken Bixby

Bixby joined MCUL in 1982 as its managing director, maintaining the league's financial health during a national economic recession.

He was later named president/CEO and led the league until 1996 when he retired.

Before joining MCUL, Bixby worked for the NCUA and was known for building a strong relationship between the independent federal agency and the league.

Bixby is survived by Marge, his wife of 62 years; their four children: Karen (Norm Ledgett), Chris (Cindy), Kathy (Bucky Jones), Greg (Kelly); nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Bixby was 82.
