Former Credit Union Employees Indicted for Embezzlement
Texas federal prosecutors allege $1.1 million was stolen from Houston’s Space City CU.
Two former employees of the $81.6 million Space City Credit Union have been indicted for allegedly embezzling $1.1 million from the Houston-based cooperative over seven years.
A federal grand jury charged Susanna Guajardo, 42, of Pearland and Grace Garza, 48, of Pasadena in a superseding indictment that they allegedly embezzled $1,154,876.
Garza was also accused of a separate alleged embezzlement of $110,000, prosecutors said.
In addition, Guajardo was charged with falsifying the credit union’s account reconciliations and general ledger history.
Prosecutors alleged the embezzlement occurred between 2010 and 2017, while the false entries allegedly occurred in 2010 and 2016.
Court documents do not say what the job titles of the former Space City CU employees were or how they allegedly committed the embezzlement and how it was detected.
When reached by the CU Times on Thursday, Craig Rohden, president/CEO of Space City CU, declined to comment on what he described as an ongoing case.
