Credit Union 1, Town & Country FCU, Chartway FCU Onboard New Talent

Eight credit unions enter the holiday weekend with 10 new additions to their teams.

WEST

Mark Burgess

The $1 billion Credit Union 1 in Anchorage, Alaska, hired Mark Burgess as chief technology officer. Prior to joining Credit Union 1, Burgess served as vice president of customer success for SilverCloud, a technology organization with which he helped various credit unions nationwide manage their policies and procedures. In his new role, Burgess will work to continually enhance the technology that Credit Union 1 employees and members depend on.

EAST

Chris Teachout

The $652 million Direct Federal Credit Union in Needham, Mass., hired Chris Teachout as vice president, business banking. Teachout joins the credit union from Needham Bank, where he served as vice president, private banking. He comes to Direct Federal with more than 10 years of business banking experience. Teachout will be responsible for building Direct’s business banking offering, serving local businesses with business deposits and loans to meet the small business owners’ unique banking needs.

Monica Worrell

The $1.3 billion APG Federal Credit Union in Edgewood, Md., hired Monica Worrell as director of business development for Harford County. Worrell joins APGFCU with 30 years of experience in both the public and private sector, most recently as marketing director and patient relations manager for Advanced Eye Care and Aesthetics, which was preceded by her position as public information officer and chief spokesperson for the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

The $385 million Town & Country Federal Credit Union in Scarborough, Maine, expanded its public relations and communications team.

Jon Paradise

Jon Paradise was hired as vice president, public relations and communications. Paradise joins Town & Country’s management team from the Maine Credit Union League, where he spent 18 years leading the organization’s communications, public relations and government affairs programs. Most recently, he served as the organization’s vice president of public affairs and engagement.

Linda Halleran

Linda Halleran was promoted to the newly-created position of community outreach manager. Halleran joined Town & Country in 2008 and has held several positions including marketing manager, and most recently, public relations and communications manager. In her new role, she will be responsible for strengthening and building community engagement and partnerships with non-profits, educational institutions, government entities and other organizations to forward the credit union’s mission.

MIDWEST

Mark Sowinski

The $1.8 billion Corporate Central Credit Union in Muskego, Wis., hired Mark Sowinski as executive account manager. In his new role, Sowinski will proactively develop and solidify relationships with Corporate Central’s growing membership. Sowinski will also lead the business development efforts for Corporate Central’s healthcare CUSO, InterLutions, to grow the popular I-Care program to credit unions across the country.

SOUTH

Dean Davis

The $673 million Gulf Winds Credit Union in Pensacola, Fla., named Dean Davis chief information officer. Since 2005, Davis worked at the $2.5 billion, San Jose, Calif.-based Technology Credit Union and held a number of management roles, including assistant vice president of network operations, vice president of infrastructure and technology, and most recently SVP of information technology.

Christina Evans

The $605 million Members Choice Credit Union in Houston, Texas, named Christina Evans vice president of risk management. Evans most recently worked at BBVA Compass Bank, where she has worked since 2005 and most recently held the role of SVP, compliance risk group manager. Prior to her time at BBVA Compass Bank, Evans worked at Woodforest National Bank for three years as a branch manager.

The $2.1 billion Chartway Federal Credit Union in Virginia Beach, Va., welcomed three new leaders to its leadership team.

Kim Ross

Kim Ross was hired as chief human resources officer. She comes to Chartway following 16 years in progressively advanced human resources leadership and executive roles at CarMax in Richmond, Va. In her role, Ross will provide leadership in the areas of talent acquisition, leadership development, succession planning, legal/regulatory issues, employee experience and developing solutions for the credit union’s growing membership.

Byron Gifford

Byron Gifford was hired as vice president of collections and fraud. Gifford comes to Chartway from Discover Financial Services, where he held senior management-level roles relative to sales acquisition and collections strategies. He will be responsible for helping Chartway build the next-generation design for its collections and fraud teams, oversee the collections strategy, manage collections partnerships, and work closely with business partners to strategically mitigate fraud risks.

Neal Wellons

Neal Wellons was hired as vice president of finance and accounting. Wellons joined Chartway in May with 25 years of experience in the financial industry. He spent the past 16 years with Capital Group/American Funds in Norfolk, Va., serving most recently as senior manager/vice president since 2008. In his new position, Wellons is responsible for multiple aspects of Chartway’s finance and accounting functions, including the management of the organization’s budget, operational profitability, investments, asset/liability position and credit quality.
