Apple FCU, Ascend FCU, 7 17 CU Hire & Promote

Eight credit unions across the nation reveal new hires, promotions and honors.

CU professionals start new positions.

WEST

The $185 million Fitzsimons Credit Union in Aurora, Colo., promoted two employees.

Nina Myers was promoted to SVP. Myers has been with Fitzsimons for more than five years. She was hired as vice president of lending in 2013 and was promoted to vice president of operations in October 2014. A 16-year veteran of the credit union industry, Myers’ experience includes roles in lending, branch operations and marketing. Myers’ longevity in the industry stems from her passion to fulfill the mission of people helping people.

Elizabeth Rettig was promoted to assistant vice president of risk management. Rettig has been with Fitzsimons for more than seven years. With 11 years of experience in the financial services industry and a background in fraud analytics and financial crime investigations, she was initially hired as a risk management/fraud specialist. Rettig was promoted to the position of compliance and risk manager in June 2015. In that role, she took on loan portfolio risk management in addition to the fraud and compliance components of her previous role.

The $751 million Santa Clara County Federal Credit Union in San Jose, Calif., expanded its leadership team with the addition of two new vice presidents.

Carol Presar

Carol Presar was hired as vice president of learning and talent development. She will be responsible for employee training and human resources support. Presar has an extensive background in developing operational policies and procedures, instructional design, and enterprise-wide talent development. She previously worked with 1st Franklin/Merrill Lynch (now part of Bank of America).

Steve Naylor

Steven Naylor was hired as vice president of IT infrastructure. Naylor has two decades of IT experience, including financial systems design and management. He comes to County Federal from the $2.6 billion San Jose-based Technology Credit Union and holds a bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University and a business degree from West Valley Mission College.

Ryan Cash

The $977 million Bay Federal Credit Union in Capitola, Calif., promoted Ryan Cash to vice president/chief experience officer. Cash’s promotion comes after years of leading various projects that have improved the member and employee experience at the credit union. He will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of the member experience through all delivery channels, including the branch network, call center, ATMs and digital banking solutions.

MIDWEST

The $1 billion 7 17 Credit Union in Warren, Ohio promoted three employees.

Corey Davis

Corey Davis was promoted to loan servicing manager. He has worked at 7 17 for 20 years. His primary role is to oversee all activity related to the servicing of loans after they have been approved.

Terisa Slater

Terisa Slater was promoted to collections manager. She has worked at 7 17 for 12 years. In her new position, she will manage the collections department and oversee effective collection of delinquent amounts while minimizing losses to the credit union.

Bob Swauger

Bob Swauger was promoted to branch manager of the Austintown office location. In his new position, Swauger will oversee member service while maintaining daily operations of the branch office.

Melissa Beastrom

The $638 million Community 1st Credit Union in Ottumwa, Iowa named Melissa Beastrom chief strategy and risk officer. Beastrom was most recently C1st’s SVP of strategic initiatives, and prior to that she directed branch operations and managed a region of retail branches. She has been based at C1st’s Cedar Rapids, Iowa branch for eight years. In her new role, Beastrom will also direct market expansion and the C1st Foundation. She retains oversight of project management, the marketing department and strategic planning.

EAST

James Burns

President/CEO James Burns of the $157 million Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union in Northfield, N.J., received the New Jersey Credit Union League’s 2018 CEO of the Year award. During this past year, Burns has guided Jersey Shore FCU to many important achievements. In addition, Shore serves as the chairman of Concordis Services, LLC, a CUSO consisting of five credit unions.

SOUTH

John Wyatt

The $2.6 billion Apple Federal Credit Union in Fairfax, Va., named John Wyatt chief technology officer. Wyatt has a wealth of experience in IT. He comes to Apple FCU from SourceAmerica, where he served as chief information officer and vice president of information technology since 2015. Prior to that, Wyatt worked for the Mathematical Association of America as COO and director of information technology for six years.

Mark Blazek

The $2.4 billion Ascend Federal Credit Union in Tullahoma, Tenn., hired Mark Blazek as SVP and chief information officer. The Minnesota native was an IT executive at USAA Federal Savings Bank in San Antonio, Texas, before joining Ascend. Blazek’s background at USAA includes digital banking, mobile apps, core banking operations and running IT like a business.
