Charles Doherty, Jr., former board chair and a board member for more than four decades of the $892 million RTN Federal Credit Union, passed away Sept. 25, the Waltham, Mass.-based credit union said in a Monday prepared statement.

"Charlie was dedicated to ensuring our credit union's unwavering commitment to helping our members and supporting our local community," RTN President/CEO Richard Wright said. "His own generosity and volunteerism reflected the values of the credit union movement, and we were fortunate to benefit from his wisdom and guidance as well as his friendship."

Doherty was a former executive vice president of finance and administration for Granada North America.

He was actively involved in the New England Hemophilia Association, serving as its chief financial officer and overseeing successful fundraising events for the organization for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothea (Dottie) Sparrow, children and grandchildren.
