CUs Back Appalachian Trail Conservation, a Hospice Camp & Autism Fundraiser

The $1 billion 1st United Credit Union in Pleasanton, Calif., presents a $10,000 check to Alameda County Food Bank. The donation wraps up the credit union’s seventh year participating in the Oakland A’s Homeruns for Hunger program coordinated in partnership with 95.7 The Game, KGMZ-FM, in which they committed to donate $50 to the Food Bank for every Oakland A’s regular season homerun. 1st United said it believes in supporting its local community and hometown teams, and being able to tie in community giving with local sports teams is an added bonus. In total, the credit union has donated over $69,000 to the Food Bank through Homeruns for Hunger over the past seven years.

Employees from the $2.2 billion Nusenda Credit Union in Albuquerque, N.M., devoted the Oct. 8 federal holiday to volunteer for five community organizations serving Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Socorro, N.M. The effort was part of Nusenda’s second annual Community Day, which allows employees to positively impact the communities they serve in alignment with the credit union’s core values and current Nusenda Foundation community partnerships. Nusenda’s Community Day is part of a series of initiatives geared toward employee community engagement.
Jeff Margeson, SVP of member experience at the $3.4 billion Northwest Federal Credit Union in Herndon, Va., presents a $10,000 check to Suzanne Dixon, president/CEO at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. The credit union recently made the donation to support ATC’s mission to preserve and manage the Appalachian Trail. ATC is a community partner of Northwest Federal, and the donation was made in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System Act.
Barbara Mead and branch staff from the $2.5 billion Robins Financial Credit Union in Warner Robins, Ga., present a check to Sherry Robinson with Heart of Georgia Hospice. The credit union recently sponsored Camp WINGS by contributing to the Heart of Georgia Hospice. The camp will be held Nov. 9 through 11. Heart of Georgia Hospice Camp WINGS is held for youth ages 6 to 16 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. In addition to normal camp activities, the children receive free grief counseling while living among people their own age who have experienced similar situations. The children learn about the grieving process and how to move forward with their lives.
Staff members from the $2.9 billion SAFE Credit Union in Folsom, Calif., pose with California State Senator Dr. Richard Pan during the regional Day of Caring event put on by United Way in the Greater Sacramento, Calif., region. Staff headquartered in Folsom helped paint two classrooms at a Boys and Girls Club in Sacramento. SAFE encourages all of its employees to help improve the vitality of their communities by giving them 16 hours of paid time each year to volunteer for local nonprofits of their choice.
