New credit union CEO announced.

The board of directors for the $467 million SkyOne Federal Credit Union in Hawthorne, Calif. said Monday it hired Joseph Whitaker as its next president/CEO.

He will succeed current President/CEO Eileen Rivera who will retire in November after more than three decades of service.

Rivera led SkyOne FCU through numerous strategic initiatives, including expanding its charter, rebranding the credit union and overseeing five mergers that helped grow its membership and assets.

For nearly seven years, Whitaker served as executive vice president and chief operating officer for the $4.3 billion Kinecta Federal Credit Union in Manhattan Beach, Calif. and for more than eight years, he worked as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the $2.3 billion Truliant Federal Credit Union in Winston-Salem, N.C.

He also held executive positions with the $5.2 billion Ent Federal Credit Union in Colorado Springs, Colo., and the $6.9 billion American Airlines Federal Credit Union in Fort Worth, Texas.

"He is the right person, at the right time to lead SkyOne Credit Union forward into an exciting future for our members," SkyOne Board Chair Doug Murphy said.

Whitaker will take over as CEO in mid-October.

SkyOne FCU serves more than 35,000 members, operates five branches and employs 86 staffers.
