On the Move: CU Execs Advance Their Careers
Professionals at seven credit unions make big career moves this week.

WEST
The $4.3 billion Redwood Credit Union in Santa Rosa, Calif., promoted Ryan Lind to manager of its Novato branch. In his new role, Lind is responsible for overseeing member service, staff management, daily branch operations, and community and business development efforts. Lind joined RCU in 2003 and has been promoted several times, holding various member service positions prior to becoming assistant branch manager in Mill Valley, assistant branch manager in Novato and now branch manager in Novato.
The $976 million Bay Federal Credit Union in Capitola, Calif., promoted two employees.
Allyson Stengl was promoted to assistant vice president of consumer lending. Stengl has worked for Bay Federal for seven years in a number of integral positions, including as an underwriter, team lead and consumer lending manager. In her new role, she will work to oversee and strengthen all consumer lending functions within the credit union.
Joey Coffman was promoted to service desk manager. Coffman, who joined Bay Federal in 2014 as a member service representative, has quickly worked his way up through the technology department. In his new role, he will supervise service desk staff and work to improve support by making top-quality solutions available.
MIDWEST
The $2.1 billion Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union in St. Paul, Minn., hired Todd Sharkey as vice president of business services. In his role, Sharkey will revamp Affinity Plus’ business services program and develop a road map for the future, focused on the needs of the credit union’s membership. Sharkey joined Affinity Plus with 12 years of experience in various roles in commercial and business banking at Sunrise Banks and Associated Bank.
The $3.7 billion Veridian Credit Union in Waterloo, Iowa, promoted Candace Johnson to operations analyst. Johnson has worked at Veridian since 2017. She previously served as a core systems specialist. Johnson has a degree in computer science from the University of Northern Iowa.
The $427 million TopLine Federal Credit Union in Maple Grove, Minn., hired Alan Sonnenburg as SVP of lending and chief lending officer. Sonnenburg is an accomplished banking executive with more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. He previously served as vice president and senior regional lending manager at TCF Bank.
The $2.6 billion United Federal Credit Union in St. Joseph, Mich., announced three key promotions.
Warren Pattison was promoted from director of digital strategy to vice president of digital strategy. As his team expands, he will continue to provide an ambitious roadmap for all of United FCU’s digital products and online service delivery initiatives, and lead all the company’s digital marketing initiatives. Before joining United FCU, Pattison served in various leadership roles during the last 13 years in e-commerce and digital strategy at J.P. Morgan Chase, Otterbox and Udi’s.
Christine Aranyos was promoted from director of corporate marketing to director of marketing and communications. This new role will drive both corporate and regional marketing efforts for United FCU. Prior to joining United FCU, Aranyos was a campaign manager at the $592 million Notre Dame Federal Credit Union in Notre Dame, Ind., and associate copy director at Aisle Rocket Studios in St. Joseph, Mich.
Coli Smith was promoted from director of regional marketing to director of digital marketing. Smith brings a wealth of digital experience to this role, having built mobile applications, websites, landing pages and digital marketing plans in prior positions such as director of marketing strategy at the $871 million Andigo Credit Union in Schaumburg, Ill.
SOUTH
Rose Ellis Baggerly, president/CEO at the $241 million Argent Credit Union in Chester, Va., announced her plan to retire in early 2019. Baggerly joined the credit union in 1979 as a teller, when the credit union was known as DuPont Fibers Federal Credit Union. She quickly worked her way up to running the credit union’s in-house computer system, and was a key contributor in the launch of IRAs and ATMs at Argent. After getting her bachelor’s degree in finance from Virginia Commonwealth University, she assumed several roles with increasing responsibility, including, comptroller, vice president of finance and EVP, before stepping into the role of president/CEO in 1997.
