CommunityAmerica CU Scores With Kansas City Chiefs
NFL team picks credit union as its financial partner.
CommunityAmerica Credit Union said Friday it is handling all transactions for the Kansas City Chiefs from selling tickets to paying players.
CommunityAmerica Credit Union ($2.7 billion in assets, 229,492 members) said July marked the full integration of all Chiefs accounts to CommunityAmerica in advance of the 2018 fall football season. The professional football team chose CommunityAmerica as its official banking partner in 2017.
Mark Donovan, president of the Kansas City Chiefs, said the past year’s experience has allowed the team to appraise the credit union’s business offerings.
“It became apparent their solutions were exactly what we needed from a banking relationship,” Donovan said. “CommunityAmerica’s capabilities have not only met, but exceeded our expectations.”
CommunityAmerica President/CEO Lisa Ginter said the Commercial Division is primed for large-scale clients like the Chiefs.
The team generated $365 million in revenue in 2016, up from $340 million in 2015 and $195 million in 2006, according to Statista.com. Last year Forbes estimated the Chiefs were worth $2.1 billion, making them the 24th most valuable franchise in the National Football League.
“There’s no family-owned business in Kansas City more beloved than our Chiefs,” Ginter said. “We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to service their unique banking needs and deepen our relationship with their organization.”
Since officially launching the commercial banking platform only a few years ago under the leadership of Pam Berneking, chief commercial officer, CommunityAmerica has continued to ramp up in meaningful ways. Its member business loans stood at $54.6 million as of June 30, up 27.5% from a year earlier.
“We’re capable of servicing businesses of all sizes, but we had to add the people and technology to build lasting relationships with the variety of complex businesses across Kansas City,” Berneking said. “The Chiefs have needs 365 days out of the year, so this partnership is a true proof point for what’s possible now and in the future.”
CommunityAmerica is among the top 10 Kansas City-based financial institutions based on deposits. There are 29 CommunityAmerica branches in Kansas City, and one in St. Louis.
