Professionals Make Moves at Marine CU, TruMark Financial CU

Thirteen professionals step into new roles at six credit unions this week.

CU executives see bright career paths ahead.

This past week, thirteen credit union professionals took big steps up the career ladder, with new talent being hired at TruMark Financial Credit Union, Marine Credit Union, Service One Credit Union and other institutions.

EAST

Matt Birkelien

Matt Birkelien, CFO at the $1 billion First Financial Federal Credit Union in Lutherville, Md., was appointed to the Maryland Council on Economic Education. After a nomination and a vote by the MCEE Board of Trustees, Birkelien was confirmed as the newest member of this valuable organization that assists local teachers in promoting financial literacy and well-being to their students. The Maryland Council on Economic Education is a grassroots organization established in 1953 that supplies content and resources to educators for the purpose of providing personal finance education to students.

Karen Sweeney

The $2.1 billion TruMark Financial Credit Union in Fort Washington, Penn., hired Karen Sweeney as SVP, chief human resources officer. Sweeney brings more than 25 years of experience in the financial industry, most recently serving as director of human resources at Amboy Bank in Old Bridge, N.J. In her previous role at Amboy Bank, Sweeney was responsible for aligning culture, values and behaviors with the strategic direction and goals of the organization.

MIDWEST

The $785 million Marine Credit Union in La Crosse, Wis., announced several additions to its leadership team.

Marie MacGlashin

Marie MacGlashin was named director of deposit operations. MacGlashin joined Marine in August 2016 as contact center director. She has made significant improvements to the contact center and led the credit union’s recent merger with Bent River Community Credit Union. In her new role, she will oversee both the contact center and deposit account support operations for the company.

Jason DeGarmo

Jason DeGarmo was named district manager in t hFond du Lac District. Since joining Marine in September 2017, DeGarmo served as a consumer loan officer and branch manager at offices throughout the company. Most recently he supported the Marine’s team in Rushford, Minn., as branch manager.

Andrew Wapneski

Andrew Wapneski was hired as a district manager. Wapneski has more than 10 years of cross-functional management experience, eight of those years in the financial industry. He returns to Marine from BMO Harris Bank where he served as vice president and retail bank manager for BMO Harris Bank. He previously worked in Marine’s Fond du Lac District from 2011 to 2014.

Kellee Hembree

Kellee Fabry was named talent acquisition manager. Fabry will lead the recruiting team in hiring new employees as Marine continues to grow. Fabry joined Marine in 2014 as a consumer loan officer in Suamico, Wis. She was promoted to member services supervisor, senior consumer loan officer and associate branch manager at Suamico, before moving to Ripon, Wis., to serve as a branch manager in 2016. She has served as branch manager in Green Bay since June 2017.

Mindy Casper

Mindy Casper was named branch manager in Suamico. Casper joined Marine in March 2015 as a chief lending officer. She was promoted to mortgage loan representative in February 2016.

Michael Mallek

Michael Mallek was hired as a branch manager. Mallek has more than 15 years of management experience, four of those years in the financial industry. He joins Marine from OneMain Financial where he served as a branch manager.

Laura Erschnig

Laura Erschnig was named branch manager in Davenport, Iowa. Erschnig joined Marine in January of 2017 as a chief lending officer in Chippewa Falls, Wis.

The $3.7 billion Veridian Credit Union in Waterloo, Iowa, hired one employee and promoted another.

James Risius

James Risius was hired as a core systems specialist. Risius, a resident of Cedar Falls, Iowa, was a network infrastructure tech at BerganKDV. He has a degree in management information systems from Iowa State University.

Christina Christensen

Christina Christensen was promoted to account resolution team leader. Christensen, a resident of Elk Run Heights, has worked at Veridian for six years. She was previously a credit consultant III. Christensen has a degree in business administration from Upper Iowa University.

SOUTH

The $341 million Railroad & Industrial Federal Credit Union in Tampa, Fla., announced CFO Robert “Rusty” Beck is retiring on Aug. 31, 2018 after 16 years of service at the credit union and 33 years in the financial services industry. He was hired as the vice president of finance in 2002 and was later promoted to CFO. Joseph McGinley, former CFO of the $589 million McCoy Credit Union in Orlando will take over as the CFO on Sept. 1, 2018. McGinley brings more than 25 years of experience in the financial industry.

Greg Seaton

The $162 million Service One Credit Union in Bowling Green, Ky., appointed Greg Seaton as business development/commercial lending officer. Seaton has more than 30 years of experience in banking and finance, with most of that time spent in south central Kentucky working with small businesses. He is a graduate of Western Kentucky University and a graduate of Leadership Bowling Green. He has served on the board for the Leadership Bowling Green Alumni Association and on the board for the Housing Authority of Bowling Green.
