The Kentucky Credit Union League's board of directors said Monday Debbie Painter will become president/CEO of the Louisville-based organization on Jan. 1, 2019.
She will succeed Wendell Lyons who will retire at the end of 2018 after more than 30 years of service at the Kentucky league.
"Debbie has been an integral part of the League's success and we are thrilled to promote her to this position," said Board Chair Karen Harbin. "She is not only a visionary leader and strategic thinker, but her strong business acumen and outstanding relationship skills, distinguish Debbie as a dynamic leader."
Painter began her career with credit unions in 1979 at the $1.4 billion Fort Knox Federal Credit Union in Radcliff. Twenty years later, she joined the Kentucky league staff and currently serves as executive vice president.
Lyons served as the league president/CEO for 18 years. He previously worked as director of governmental affairs.
During his tenure, Lyons achieved numerous legislative victories that advanced the credit union movement in the Blue Grass State. He was inducted into the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders in February.
There are nearly 70 Kentucky credit unions.
