CU Times Executive Editor Michael Ogden's column on the CFPB inspired readers to respond with their views on the agency. Here's what a few of them had to say.

I work for a company that provides software to financial institutions and read CU Times every day. There have been many times I wanted to send you a note expressing my gratitude for your reporting and insight, but in these busy times, have not stopped to do so. After reading your article about the CFPB today, I decided it was time to commend you and thank you for bringing light to a subject that far too few people understand.
I've followed the CFPB since its inception and like you, was disheartened to see what is happening to the agency now. It is such important work and the citizens of this country need the CFPB. We need an independent agency investigating and protecting us from the corporate greed and political corruption that has become far too prevalent in our government. [Acting CFPB Director Mick] Mulvaney's actions are reprehensible and short-sighted, yet it is hard to find the time to voice my opinion with the proliferation of objectionable actions coming from the Trump administration. I am numb.
Your article today explains the CFPB's original mission and what is happening to the agency now, in terms anyone can understand. It made me remember that we must stand up for what we believe in and let our voices be heard. I hope your readers pause to think about the implications of how the CFPB is being dismantled and voice their concerns to their representatives in Washington.
Keep up the good work – you are appreciated!

That's an interesting take on it. The article is absolutely correct, the CFPB was created for consumer protection – at the burden of the financial industry. The CFPB is like an HOA, it's for the few that don't get it (who paint their house pink or don't pull their weeds) but the rules apply to everyone, just in case they don't get it. I like to think that most financial [institutions] are doing the right thing. Mom isn't really getting another divorce – just going through counseling to find harmony and happiness.

[A] quote [from the] article [reads], "Polls done by American Future Fund, a GOP polling company, found that the public overwhelmingly loved what the agency was doing for consumers." I suspect that if this is an accurate representation of the public's view, the public doesn't understand the true/negative impact the agency was making on their ability to access financial products and services. The tone of your article suggests a biased view of the subject matter. I would appreciate journalism to be fair and unbiased, please.
