The $3.6 billion Redwood Credit Union in Santa Rosa, Calif., hired David Griffis as senior small business administration and commercial loan officer. With a wealth of expertise in small business lending and local business development, Griffis will focus on small business administration and commercial real estate loans in San Francisco and Marin counties. Griffis most recently served as SVP of business development at TMC Financing, where he provided financing for owner-occupied commercial real estate acquisitions and construction.

The $1 billion Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union in Chadds Ford, Penn., announced the passing of president/CEO John D. Unangst. Under his stewardship for more than 40 years, Unangst led the growth of FMFCU from one branch with less than $1 million in assets to 37 branches and more than $1 billion in assets. In addition, Unangst led the formation of two CUSOs that continue impacting the credit union industry.

The $283 million University Credit Union in Orono, Maine, hired one employee and promoted two others.

Jenn Deschene was hired as campus branch manager at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. In this role, Deschene is responsible for all campus branch operations and facilities, as well as developing member relationships within the UMPI campus community. Deschene comes to UCU from the $230 million County Federal Credit Union and brings more than 16 years of experience in financial services.

Carla Walton was promoted to electronic branch manager in Orono. In her new role, Walton will oversee the credit union's electronic service channels, including its video teller system, and will be responsible for ensuring the highest degree of member satisfaction. Walton joined UCU in 2012, and for the past four years has served as a collections specialist.

Abbey Ramsay was promoted to consumer lending manager in Orono. In her new role, Ramsay will oversee all aspects of consumer lending origination for UCU. Ramsay joined UCU in 2013, and for the past five years has served as an electronic loan specialist, electronic branch supervisor, and electronic branch manager. She has more than eight years of experience in financial services and lending.

MIDWEST

The $3.4 billion Veridian Credit Union in Waterloo, Iowa, hired Nichole James as mortgage originator. James, a resident of Council Bluffs, previously worked at Veridian for eight years and rejoined the team in November. James has a degree in business administration from Kirkwood Community College.

After 10 years of dedicated volunteer service, including serving as board chairman from 2013 to 2015, Ron Vogel, president/CEO of the $235 million Fort Community Credit Union in Fort Atkinson, Wis., retired from the Corporate Central Credit Union Board of Directors. To fill the vacant board position, the Corporate Central Board unanimously appointed Val Mindak, president/CEO of the $185 million Park City Credit Union. Mindak has led the credit union headquartered in Merrill, Wis., for more than eight years. She also serves as vice chair and governmental affairs committee chair at the Wisconsin Credit Union League.

SOUTH

The $1 billion SAFE Federal Credit Union in Sumter, S.C., named Robin Kelly director of compliance. In the newly-created position, Kelly will assure that SAFE complies with credit union regulations. Kelly joined SAFE in 2000 as a switchboard operator, working her way up through positions in member services and collections where she eventually served as a card services manager for more than a decade.

The $1.3 billion Volunteer Corporate Credit Union in Nashville, Tenn., hired Wade Stapleton as vice president of marketing/innovation. Stapleton will be instrumental in creating new products and services to meet the ever changing needs of its member credit unions. For the past 18 years, Stapleton served as president of the $44 million LifeWay Credit Union after working with both the Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions and Tennessee Teachers Credit Union.

The $3.3 billion Northwest Federal Credit Union in Herndon, Va., hired Sonia Ordenes White as its SVP of talent management and development following the retirement of Phyllis Ziakas, who was with the credit union for 15 years and served as the SVP over human resources. Ordenes White previously served as the director of human resources for the $4.6 billion Bank-Fund Staff Federal Credit Union in Washington.
