The New Year brought new comments from CU Times readers on discrimination, embezzlement, the CFPB and more. Here's what they had to say.

"Former COO Sues Credit Union for Age, Sex Discrimination," Dec. 27

As a former director of a large credit union, I've seen this type of thing first-hand. I have no knowledge about this particular situation, but this type of thing does happen with some regularity.

"Guilty Plea for Former Credit Union Employee," Dec. 28

I've been reading these accounts by Peter Strozniak of credit unionists stealing from credit unions for the past three years, and I always find it disturbing that employees or officials would try to get away with this type of criminality. Sad, very sad.

"CUNA to Push for 'Modernizing' Federal Credit Union Act," Jan. 2

Caution is in order. Be careful about "modernizing" the 1934 Credit Union Act. Though it has been modified before, opening up it up for examination could act in reverse. Credit unions enjoy a nonprofit status, which should not be jeopardized.

"CUs React to Fed's Decision Threatening Their Lucrative Pot Business," Jan. 5

Sessions is such an idiot … if he had any real concern for law enforcement and public safety (instead of politics) he would be calling for a change to the federal classification of cannabis; instead he keeps his head in the sand, ignores states' rights, and puts everyone at risk by requiring lawful businesses to enact heightened security (i.e., hire gun-toting security), and put the public at risk by encouraging a "cash-based" economy, loved by all money launderers and tax evaders. Can someone tell him about the history of prohibition in this country?

"New York Credit Union: CFPB's Mulvaney Already Hurting Us," Jan. 8

What an absurd lawsuit. Not only is Mulvaney good, overall, for credit unions, but even if their argument had merit, by the time the lawsuit is settled, Trump will have appointed a formal director (hopefully McWatters) and it isn't like we can go back in time and give English a chance to run the bureau. It's immaterial.

Wonder if this Federal Credit Union is the only CU opposed to Trump's selected appointment?

"Credit Union Manager, Head Teller Charged," Jan. 8

It is somewhat amazing to embezzle half of the credit union's assets and think that it will go unnoticed!
