From coast to coast this past week, eight credit unions recognized talented professionals as they made big moves in their careers. Plus, the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association hired a new executive.
WEST
The board of directors at the $613 million University of Hawai`i Federal Credit Union in Honolulu, Hawaii announced the retirement of president/CEO Jeanine Morse (pictured). Under Morse's leadership since 2009, UHFCU has grown $200 million in assets, improved net worth from 8% to 12%, added three new branches, implemented a state-of-the-art core system, online and mobile services, and now serves nearly 30,000 members. The board of directors named Travis Bow as the new president/CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2018.

EAST
The $172 million Tremont Credit Union in Braintree, Mass., named Diane G. Papadakos director of marketing and business development. In her new role, Papadakos is responsible for providing strategic direction around marketing, advertising, public relations, branding and business development efforts. She reports directly to the president/CEO. Papadakos brings with her more than 25 years of experience in the financial industry as a marketing executive within the financial and real estate investment/property management fields.
The $1 billion CFCU Community Credit Union in Ithaca, N.Y., promoted Rebecca Roberts to vice president of learning and development. Roberts started her career at CFCU Community in June of 2011 as an executive assistant to the president/CEO. She quickly ascended during her time at CFCU Community holding positions as principal of strategic initiatives, assistant vice president of learning and development, and now her new position of vice president of learning and development.
Tricia Szurgot, chief marketing and retail officer of the $674 million First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union in Bethlehem, Penn., was recently honored at an awards ceremony in New York City with the 2017 CMO of the Year Officers Award by The CMO Club. The CMO Club Awards celebrate leaders in marketing and offer chief marketing offices the opportunity to share insights that drive the industry forward. The CMO Officers Award is based on a marketing executive's demonstrated ability to democratize the brand beyond the marketing department and lead the growth agenda for the company across functional areas.
MIDWEST
The $3.4 billion Veridian Credit Union based in Waterloo, Iowa, promoted two employees.
Diem Duong was promoted to recruiter. Duong, a resident of Omaha, has worked at Veridian for one year. She was previously an indirect loan representative.
Chris Demory (pictured) was promoted to accountant II. Demory, a resident of Waterloo, has worked at Veridian for nine years. He was previously a training specialist for Veridian Fiscal Solutions. Demory has a degree in finance from the University of Northern Iowa.
The $541 million Crane Credit Union in Odon, Ind., promoted Jeremy Vehslage to vice president of member experience. He will work with the credit union operations and lending teams to oversee and direct the delivery of products and services to members. Vehslage has 20 years of retail management experience with the majority of his career spent in the financial services industry. He began working at Crane in November 2009 as the branch manager of the credit union's Bloomington location and was promoted to regional manager in September 2011.
SOUTH
The $2.2 billion Truliant Federal Credit Union in Winston-Salem, N.C., promoted Jeremy Cline to product manager. Cline was named to the newly-created role in Truliant's marketing department. He will lead the credit union's insights and analytics team in maintaining, enhancing and aligning Truliant's product portfolio with the diverse financial needs of its members. He will also be responsible for combining member-owner feedback, product usage, secondary research and industry knowledge for the continued development of product offerings. During his career, Cline has held a number of roles and grown expertise in many disciplines.
The $157 million Service One Credit Union in Bowling Green, Ky., appointed Rebecca Stone president/CEO. Stone previously served as EVP and COO before assuming her new position on Jan. 1, 2018. Stone filled the position vacated by Garth Griese who retired on December 31, 2017. Stone has more than 25 years of financial institution experience in operations, product development and service delivery.
LEAGUES
The Pennsylvania Credit Union Association named Christina Mihalik SVP of government relations. In her new role, she will oversee all association legislative and regulatory advocacy programs as well as engage with compliance and other subject-matter experts to nurture a positive operating environment for Pennsylvania credit unions. Mihalik joined the association in 2000 as a governmental affairs specialist.
