This past week, eight credit unions in multiple regions announced employee hires, promotions, board appointments and accolades. Plus, PSCU created a new cybersecurity-focused role.

WEST

The $219 million St. Helens Community Credit Union in St. Helens, Wash., announced the addition of two new vice presidents to better serve its members and streamline internal processes.

Katie Woodall (pictured) was selected as vice president of lending. Woodall joined the credit union as a teller in 1998. She quickly added to her list of responsibilities and moved into management positions, including director of member service and director of lending.

Steve Brown was selected as vice president of commercial lending. Brown began his financial services career in 1994, working in leadership positions in banks and credit unions in Alaska and Texas before relocating to Oregon earlier this year. Prior to 1994, he served in the United States Air Force.

EAST

David Pronchick (pictured) was appointed to the board of directorsat the$1.2 billion Hanscom Federal Credit Union basedin Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. Pronchick joined the credit union in 1988. He became a volunteer in 2002 when he joined the supervisory committee. He served in the Air Force as a judge advocate, retiring as a colonel after 20 years of service. Pronchick then became a partner at BlueLaw International, a law firm dedicated to providing expertise in the areas of democracy, good governance, and the rule of law. Pronchick is filling the term vacated by Frederick C. Ryan, who retired from the board on Sept. 30, 2017.Ryan, a retired federal government employee, represented members at the O'Neill branch beginning in 1982. He first joined the board in 1984.

The $325 million First New York Federal Credit Union in Albany, N.Y., promoted Shareta Garnes to member service representative in the Albany branch. Garnes started her career at First New York in 2016 as a teller. Prior to joining the credit union, she worked as a customer service representative at Maximus Inc.

The $763 million Point Breeze Credit Union in Hunt Valley, Md., hired Rick Donovan to focus on developing and expanding the credit union's company partnerships. Donovan has dedicated more than 30 years to helping companies both large and small expand their businesses. Most recently, he spent eight years as the business development manager for Enoch Office.  Point Breeze recently expanded with the addition of offices in Owings Mills and Westminster, which will be Donovan's main areas of focus for developing business partnerships.

MIDWEST

Geoff Bullock, financial education specialist with $1.1 billion Firefly Credit Union in Burnsville, Minn., was named the 2017 CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec. Bullock's project about bridging the financial gap for adoptive families was chosen from a group of international applicants, all age 35 or under, whom a team of judges selected as finalists in August. As one of five finalists, Bullock's blog and video updates over the past few months provided the industry with an insight into the project's progress, and culminated with a final presentation at the CUES CEO/Executive Team Network, where Bullock won.

The $2.6 billion Corporate One Federal Credit Union in Columbus, Ohio, announced the election of Charles Harkness, vice president, office of portfolio project management, to the Federal Reserve System's Faster Payments Governance Framework Formation Team. Harkness has served on the Faster Payments Task Force since 2015, and will help develop and establish an initial faster payments governance framework for the U.S. marketplace. Corporate One is the only credit union network representative on the Faster Payments Governance Framework Formation Team.

The $173 million KALSEE Credit Union in Kalamazoo, Mich., hired Jessica Schauer as the Battle Creek branch manager. Schauer entered the banking industry in 2008 and most recently served as branch manager for Huntington Bank. She has six years of experience in management and 13 years of experience in customer service.

SOUTH

The $1.4 billion Fort Knox Federal Credit Union in Radcliff, Ky., hired Sharon Riehemann as its Radcliff branch manager. Riehemann is a banking professional with more than 30 years of account management experience. She brings a passion for financial literacy, a strong history of community involvement and a host of other skills to the credit union.

CUSOs

The St. Petersburg, Fla.-based PSCU announced Gene Fredriksen will transition from the role of chief information security officer to chief information security strategist. In this newly-created role, Fredriksen will report on several strategic functions primarily focused on relating PSCU's perspective and stance on cybersecurity to existing clients, prospective clients, consultants in the credit union space and the industry as a whole. Fredriksen has more than 25 years of information technology experience, with the past 20 focused specifically in the area of information security. He joined PSCU in 2013.
