Following more than four decades of service in the credit union movement, Louisiana Credit Union League President/CEO Anne Cochran said Saturday that she will retire next year.
Cochran announced her retirement at the league's annual meeting & convention in New Orleans. The LCUL board said it will conduct a national search for her successor.

"Anne came to the Louisiana League at a critical time for our movement. The league was fighting for survival," said LCUL Board Chair Glen Beard and board member of the $22 million Alexandria Municipal Employees Credit Union in Alexandria. "Because of her passion, knowledge and leadership, the league has emerged as a financially sound organization and one of the most respected trade associations,"
The Louisiana league today manages nearly $4 million in net assets and boasts a 92% affiliation rate.
Under her leadership, Cochran was instrumental in developing products, services and programs for credit unions throughout the state such as the Louisiana CU Cooperative Branching Network that drew more than $2 million in investments from 26 credit unions. She also developed the Louisiana Credit Union Foundation that provides financial assistance for statewide disaster relief efforts for credit union employees and professional development opportunities for small credit unions.
In 2006, she was recognized with the National Credit Union Foundation's Anchor Award for her leadership in helping credit unions recover from Hurricane Katrina, and in 2011, she was inducted into the Louisiana Credit Union Hall of Fame.
In 2015, Cochran was elected as the first woman chair of the board of directors for the World Council of Credit Unions. Prior to this, she served for WOCCU in many capacities, including as a frequent speaker at international credit union meetings. In addition to serving as a volunteer to help international credit unions grow, she forged partnerships between Louisiana credit unions and credit unions from Africa and Russia.
"From the moment my credit union journey began, I knew I had found my calling," Cochran said. "As time went by, it became a significant part of who I am. I am extremely humbled by the opportunities I was afforded and the experiences it created. Most importantly, I'm eternally grateful for the relationships that were formed. We've built something special here in Louisiana and I'm proud of what we've done together."
