Douglas Samuels, president/CEO of the $4 billion Space Coast Credit Union, died suddenly and unexpectedly Friday, the Melbourne, Fla.-based credit union said Friday.

He was 57.

Samuels joined SCCU in 1991 as the vice president of information systems. He was named CEO in 1997.

 “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Doug Samuels,” Dale Neubert, board chair for SCCU, said in a prepared statement. “He was first and foremost a generous, selfless individual dedicated to his family, as well as an inspiring mission-focused leader, who served the credit union, its employees, and its membership with vision and commitment. He will be greatly missed and we extend our deepest sympathies to his family.”   Timothy M. Antonition, executive vice president, chief operations officer, was appointed acting CEO, the credit union said.  Funeral arrangements are pending.
