News stories focused on credit union services, the CFPB, the Trump administration and the relationship between politics and the media got readers fired up this past week. Here's what they had to say on cutimes.com.

“When Volunteering Is Your Life, Great Things Happen,” March 1

What an encouraging read! The depth of the volunteer spirit demonstrated here along with the insight of the valuable perspectives to be gleaned from international approaches to providing financial services meshes perfectly with the technological progress that is allowing credit unions to tailor solutions for their members. This could become an entire series of articles.

“Are CU Members Willing to Pay for Digital Banking Services?” March 7

If people won't pay for music, they won't pay for something that's currently free.

“Doubling Down on Criticism of CFPB,” March 7

The CFPB is just another meddling outfit that needs the attention of President Trump and his administration. It should be eliminated entirely.

“Is It Time to Get Political?” March 8

It's not the responsibility for CUs or any service oriented business to influence through politics. CUs should focus on services and products for members. It's unfortunate that the liberal establishment had nothing negative to say under the prior administration, which did nothing but take from those who were still able to work and pay taxes, which provided $322 billion to those who never paid taxes. So let's continue to focus on the objective of the business at hand and keep out of politics.

“Trump Administration Signals Opposition to CFPB in PHH Suit,” March 8

All the lawyers who appear at CFSA, OLA, FISCA, Lendup, Bank360 and the Tribal Business Expo MUST be experiencing supreme bouts of anxiety and heart palpitations as they contemplate the certainty of a declawed Trump CFPB. After all, [after] failing to scare the bejesus out of those of us in the alternative financial lending industry, what industry will they next seek out to drum up fear? Ah, I know. The CANNABIS space! As a matter of fact, I've already attended a few cannabis workshops presented by firms previously serving us loan sharks – sorry, I mean fintech lenders. Hey, nothing personal. More than a few lawyers are some of my best friends! I'm sure Scott Tucker wishes he had a lawyer best friend right about now.

“Juxt-OPPOSE,” March 9

Pretty sure you could write an article stating “Democrats prove 2+2=4” and a far right article would claim an “alternate fact” that 2+2 actually equals 3 or the math is just a way to take away their guns.
