News of the CFPB and fraud, and our debut of CU Times Correspondent-at-Large Tahira Hayes' column sparked readers to offer their feedback. Here's what they had to say.

“Obama Administration Contends That CFPB Structure is Constitutional,” Dec. 29

What do you expect from this administration that has subverted and side-stepped the constitution since day one? The CFPB is not only a waste of money, it's also misused the funds it has taken. The most telling part of their failure is that the American consumer is no better off now for all their actions.

“Credit Unions, Life and Everything In Between,” Jan. 11

[Tahira Hayes'] Jan. 11 introductory column got me to thinking about something I've been observing at the GAC. I attend it each year (it's easy – I live in northern Virginia).

The thing that puzzles me is the number of volunteers who appear to be just placeholders in their CU. I strike up conversations with them, and they seem to be pretty much out to lunch about the financial challenges facing their respective CUs.

The poor vendors try to interest attendees in their product or service by offering trinkets galore. One year one vendor offered five minutes in a plastic booth with fake money whirling around. Give me a break.

I can't count the number of times I've been in a conversation with a vendor representative, only to be interrupted by somebody wanting to know what the vendor was giving away. The interloper gets the lip balm, bag, pen, etc. and then disappears.

I noticed the first year I attended that the ID badges are color-coded as to professional versus volunteer. They wouldn't have to be differently colored if everyone were serious about investigating possible new services.

Has it always been this way?

“Don't Fire CFPB's Cordray, Lawmakers Advise Trump,” Jan. 17

The CFPB is an example of everything that's wrong with government … it's ineffective, it doesn't help the folks it was set up to help, and it's now run on the whims of one person! Not only ditch the leader; dump the entire enterprise!
