The $309 million Maine Savings Federal Credit Union in Hampden announced its longtime advisor and former longest serving board chair, Harold Grant, 93, died over the Labor Day Weekend.

Grant played a vital role in advancing Maine's credit union movement and helped guide Maine Savings to become one of the largest and most progressive financial institutions in the state, according to the credit union. A Bangor native, Grant became involved with Maine Savings in the early 1960s.

In 1968, he was appointed to the credit union's supervisory committee, and a year later he was named a member of the board of directors. Grant assumed the role of board chair in 1989, a position he held until 2007. Grant was the longest-serving board chair in the credit union's history.
