Educational Systems Federal Credit Union has helped ensure students in need are well equipped for school.
“We believe that helping students continue to learn over the summer provides the foundation for a successful school year and beyond,” Educational Systems President/CEO Chris Conway said.
The $850 million credit union based in Rockville, Md. donated 1,100 rulers, 2,200 pencils and $1,000 to the Montgomery County Public Schools Retirees Association's Toolkits, Books and Backpacks project.
Created in 2003 to help economically disadvantaged students, the project supports the Extended Learning Opportunities Summer Adventures in Learning program, a free four-week summer school program offered at 27 Title I elementary schools.
The donated school supplies and monetary support provided by Educational Systems FCU were used to assemble toolkits, which were distributed to each participating school for students to take home.
“We are most grateful for the ongoing commitment of Educational Systems FCU to making the future a bright one for today's neediest children in our county,” Joan Donovan, Co-Chair of the special projects committee of the MCPS Retirees Association said. ”By donating items for the kits, it enables us to purchase other learning materials for inclusion in the toolkits that would not be possible otherwise.”
