The past few weeks were unfortunately marked by the loss of some credit union industry leaders.
The deaths of former WesCorp President/CEO Bob Siravo, Elko Federal Credit Union President/CEO Doug Schwartz and credit union advocate/Trailblazer 40 Below Nate Muniz shook the community.
In addition, CU Times Executive Editor Heather Anderson announced plans to return to her marketing roots as co-founder of a new firm, OmniChannel Communications.
Readers shared their thoughts on those who were lost too soon and other credit union hot topics.
Elko FCU CEO Killed in Hit and Run
This is a very sad story indeed. Elko is not exactly a hustling and bustling community, there is more to this story.

Former Trailblazer 40 Below, PSECU Lobbyist Muniz Passes
I'm very sorry to hear of Nate's passing. He was a great CU advocate, always willing to help others in sharing their CU story.

In Memoriam: Robert Siravo Passes
I am so sorry to hear of Bob Siravo's passing. He was one of the wonderful CUSO leadership mentors I had during my early years in the credit union industry. He was kind, understanding, supportive and a true follower of the People Helping People philosophy of credit unions, whether those people were credit union members or employees of other credit unions. It was an honor to have navigated the unchartered waters of CUSOland with Bob and our band of merry misfits.

Expand Dodd-Frank, Allow USPS to Offer Banking Services, Dems Say
Wasn't it just a year ago that the USPS wanted to stop delivering mail on Saturdays because it couldn't handle its basic business? How could it possibly expand into another business?

It is impossible to imagine a more misguided public policy narrative than this economy-killing Democratic Party policy platform concerning the controversial and probably unconstitutional Dodd-Frank Act.
The nearly-criminal disruption of the credit union relationship-based business model by the irrational, CFPB-driven, “compliance-based,” interventionist, federal, regulatory, “we-know-better-than-you-do” bureaucratic model of law enforcement is closing down credit unions at a historic pace. This third-world inspired corruption and disruption of personal liberty and free markets must be brought to an end.

How many of those pushing for this legislation have been supported by CUNA? Think of this every time you hear a politician stand up at a chapter meeting or conference and tell us how much he “loves” credit unions.

I hope that ban would apply to members of Congress and their staffs also. Why should elected public officials and their teams have fewer restrictions than private sector and appointed leaders?

Thank You, Goodbye and Good Luck
Heather, you will be missed! You've done us a great service in your work. I've come to look for your byline in [CU Times] because of the quality of your work and your willingness to call out contradictions that should be reexamined.
A few times I wondered if some heavy in the CU world would try to get you fired … I don't remember a specific article as an example, but I think of you as someone willing to speak truth regardless of the circumstance, and that's exactly the kind of honesty we need in order to keep doing work for our members throughout the world.
I wish you the best in your future endeavors and I'm glad to hear you'll keep working with CUs in some ways. Your insight and skill will be appreciated where you go, I'm sure.

Good luck to you Heather! Thanks for your good reporting and for never backing away from a story.
