The Fourth of July is this weekend. And while the Declaration of Independence declares that “all men are created equal,” that sentiment doesn't apply to all Independence Day celebrations.

WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities based on the balance of holiday cost and fun. The research company used 16 metrics, including the duration of fireworks shows, average gas prices, weather forecasts and more. The 16 metrics were categorized into three key dimensions: Entertainment and food, attractions and activities, and weather forecast for July 4th.

The metrics were graded on a 0-to-100-point scale, with 100 representing the most favorable conditions for Independence Day revelry. WalletHub then calculated an overall score for each city using the weighted average across all metrics and ranked the cities accordingly.

Data used to create the rankings were obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau, Council for Community and Economic Research, Priceline Group, American Automobile Association, American Pyrotechnics Association, WalkScore, TomTom International, Eventbrite, AccuWeather, Kayak.com, Yelp and WalletHub Research.
