It wasn't just fun and games during the Dutch Point Credit Union Community Festival and Shred Day.

For the third consecutive year, the credit union event helped raise awareness for Journey Home, a non-profit organization dedicated to implementing the Hartford, Conn. 10-year plan to end homelessness.

It's reported that Hartford has the highest concentration of individuals experiencing homelessness in Connecticut; accounting for 24% of the state's homeless individuals and 16% of families.

Locals gathered on the Bloomfield Town Green to enjoy free confidential shredding, games, prizes and live music performed by Susan Mazer and Megan Chenot The Keith and Mazer Trio. In addition, attendees donated a total of $500 to benefit Journey Home of Hartford.

Special guests included TCBY, The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce, Journey Home of Hartford, Enterprise Car Sales, Bloomfield Nursing and & Rehabilitation Center and Nurse Next Door.

Not only did the credit union help raise funds for the homeless, but by shredding over 6,000 pound of paper, natural resources were also conserved making it an environmental win as well.

Partnering with the region's social service providers, Journey Home has focused on solving the problem of chronic homelessness with housing, employment, and support services, rather than managing it with emergency shelter.
