The $1 billion WEOKIE Credit Union announced it is mourning the passing of Frank Cory, who served on the board of directors for 39 years.

The Oklahoma City-based cooperative said Cory died suddenly on June 11. He was 77.

He joined the WEOKIE board in 1977 and served in many capacities, including as the board chair and the board's secretary and treasurer. Cory also served on the Oklahoma Credit Union League's political action committee as a trustee and was named Political Activist of the Year in 1999.

He also received the distinguished service award as Volunteer of the Year for 2001-2002 and was honored with the Troy Higgins Political Activist of the Year award in 2009 from the Oklahoma Credit Union League.

"Frank consistently demonstrated throughout his entire life a real desire to serve others," WEOKIE President/CEO Brent Taylor said. "He volunteered decades of service to the credit union as part of his greater effort to help people. We will miss his support, guidance and friendship."

Cory recently served as a sergeant-at-arms for the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He retired from AT&T as a supervisor in technical services after 35 years of service and was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Cory is survived by his wife, Beverly Cory, their two children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Oakcrest Church of Christ at 1111 SW 89th Street in Oklahoma City.
