This past week, numerous credit unions across the nation announced staff changes. In addition, two CEOs received accolades for their contributions to the credit union movement, and two industry vendors hired new employees.
EAST
The Cooperative Credit Union Associationselected Maria Thomasian, business development officer at the $833 million RTN Federal Credit Union in Waltham, Mass., as a 2016 Credit Union Rising Star. Thomasian joined the RTN staff three years ago as a loan processor and was promoted to her current position as business development officer in January 2015.
SOUTH
NAFCU chose Christopher O'Connor of the $7.1 billion Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union in Live Oak, Texas as CEO of the year. O'Connor joined RBFCU in 1989 and holds a wealth of experience across a variety of departments, including internal audit, mortgage, consumer lending and branch operations.
The $226 million New Horizons Credit Union in Mobile, Ala., promoted one employee and hired another. Nita Nichols (pictured) was promoted to call center manager. Nichols joined the credit union in 1999 as a teller at the West Mobile office. She most recently held the position of call center supervisor. Tamela Bartlett was hired as vice president of lending. Bartlett has more 20 years of experience in the financial industry. She was most recently employed with Citizens National Bank as senior vice president.
The $319 million ASI Federal Credit Union based in Harahan, La., hired Sonya Jarvis as president/CEO. Jarvis succeeds Mignhon Tourné, who is retiring after serving as ASI's CEO for more than nine years. Jarvis comes to ASI after spending the last eight years with Business First Bank in Baton Rouge, La., where she served as executive vice president and COO/chief risk officer.
The $68 million First Abilene Federal Credit Union in Abilene, Texas hired Troy Kyle (pictured) as president/CEO. He succeeded Faye Smith, who retired on March 31. Kyle has more than 16 years of senior executive experience in the credit union industry, with 11 of those in a senior management capacity. Most recently, he served as vice president at the $312 million Public Employees Credit Union in Austin, Texas.
MIDWEST
Nan Morrow joined the $451 million Hoosier Hills Credit Union in Bedford, Ind., as senior vice president/chief marketing officer. Morrow brings more than 20 years of credit union experience to Hoosier Hills, having previously served in senior management positions at other credit unions. In her new position, Morrow will be responsible for the marketing efforts of the credit union, as well as sales and service.
The $167 million KALSEE Credit Union in Kalamazoo, Mich., promoted Richard (Ric) Baker (pictured) to vice president of lending. Baker joined the KALSEE team in 2011 as business services manager. During the course of Baker's leadership, KALSEE's business lending portfolio has grown to more than $10 million.
The $3.2 billion Wright-Patt Credit Union in Beavercreek, Ohio hired two new employees. Amy Reilly was hired as vice president of human resources. Reilly comes from The Standard Register Company and has more than 20 years of strategic leadership and human resources experience. Frank Petrie was hired as director of retail mortgages. Petrie has more than 11 years of mortgage lending experience and more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Frank most recently served as a mortgage area sales manager at Fifth Third Bank in the Dayton and Cincinnati markets.
The $2.9 billion Veridian Credit Union in Waterloo, Iowa promoted two employees. Zachary Adams (pictured) was promoted to team leader in the member contact center. Adams has been employed at Veridian for eight years, most recently as a senior loan officer. Tammy Thrasher was promoted to the position of integration analyst. Thrasher, a resident of Cedar Falls, Iowa, has been employed at Veridian for 16 years, most recently as an e-services specialist.
Patrick Pierce, president/CEO of the $457 million City & County Credit Union in Saint Paul, Minn., was inducted into the 2016 Credit Union House Hall of Leaders for his dedication to and impact on the credit union movement. Pierce has been a leader in the credit union movement for nearly 30 years and is actively involved in advocating for Minnesota credit unions at the state and national level.
VENDORS
DRN hired Michael Villanova as director of channel sales. Villanova will be responsible for working with DRN's auto finance channel partners including Allied Solutions and Shaw Systems. He brings more than 15 years of channel sales experience to his role at DRN as well as in depth knowledge of the financial services industry.
J.R. Bruno & Associates, a nationwide consulting firm to SBA and business lenders, promoted Rebecca Mendoza to senior associate. She brings more than 20 years of SBA and commercial lending experience to the position. Mendoza joined J.R. Bruno in 2008, coming to the firm with management experience at several financial institutions.
