Cardtronics, the nation's single largest independent ATM deployer and part owner of the Allpoint fee-free ATM network, announced Thursday it purchased 2,586 cash-dispensing ATMs from Chase Bank. The machines are located primarily in high-traffic retailers, including Walgreens and ampm, as well as several airports and other retail locations across the U.S.

Cardtronics Public Relations Director Nick Pappathopoulos said at this early stage, the Houston-based firm is focused on transitioning the ATMs onto Cardtronics' processing platform and could not say if the locations would become part of the Allpoint Network or be made available to credit union members through the company's various credit union alliances.

"Any announcement about Allpoint inclusion will come at a later date," he said.
