With the opening of a Little Free Library, Peach State Federal Credit Union has hopes of encouraging and supporting local readers one book at a time.
The $301 million credit union based in Lawrenceville, Ga., has joined the growing global movement of offering the scaled down, community supported libraries. The small book exchange locations have swelled to 36,000 in 70 countries.
Housed at the entrance of its Lawrenceville branch, Peach State's Little Free Library has been modeled after a 19th centruy school house.

"Our founders were educators and many of our members are educators. Making this miniature library is a perfect fit for our membership and the surrounding community," said Crow Hunter, Peach State training manager and the builder of the library.
Hunter, who spearheaded the library project, added that the choice of location was simple since the Lawrenceville branch offered a convenient place for anyone visiting the city to drop off or pick up literature of all kinds.
The Little Free Library nonprofit organization has been honored by the Library of Congress, the National Book Foundation, and the American Library Association, and Reader's Digest named them one of the "50 Surprising Things We Love about America." Each year, nearly 10 million books are shared in Little Free Libraries.
