The former chairman of the board for the conserved Helping Other People Excel Federal Credit Union of Jackson, N.J., was indicted on bribery charges March 3.
According to court documents, Trevon Gross, who is also a pastor at Hope Cathedral in Jackson, was indicted for accepting more than $150,000 in bribes as chairman of the board. The indictment is connected to Gross' acceptance of bribes relating to an unlawful Bitcoin exchange operated by co-defendant Anthony Murgio.
Murgio was named in a criminal complaint in July 2015 along with Yuri Lebedev. The two allegedly conspired to operate an unlicensed money laundering business and an unlicensed money transmitting business, which exchanged millions of dollars for Bitcoins for their customers.
