WASHINGTON – CUNA's Governmental Affairs Conference kicked off Monday, attracting nearly 5,000 credit union executives, vendors and family members, the trade association said. From the implications of the NCUA's proposed field of membership rule to the 2016 elections, the topics of the afternoon sessions kept the momentum going.

CUNA board members appeared onstage for the organization's annual meeting. Maurice Smith (Below, at left), president/CEO of the $1.6 billion Local Government FCU in Raleigh, N.C., was elected to serve as secretary of the board in the coming year.
Susan Streifel, at left, president/CEO of Woodstone Credit Union in Federal Way, Wash., passed on her gavel after serving as chairman of CUNA this past year. The honor of chairman was bestowed upon Rod Staatz, president/CEO of SECU of Maryland, in Linthicum, Md.
CUNA Chief Advocacy Officer Ryan Donovan provided an update on Capitol Hill issues.
Attendees took advantage of seating provided outside the exhibit hall in between sessions. The exhibit hall offered several lively booths.
NCUA Vice Chairman Rick Metsger served as a panelist Monday afternoon during a session on the impact of the NCUA's field of membership modernization efforts.
