During the month of February, “seeing red” has taken on a whole new meaning of empowerment and hope.

The Tobacco Valley Teachers Federal Credit Union recently kicked-off the American Heart Association's “Go Red for Women” campaign.

“In our effort to help bring awareness to this cause, we are accepting donations all month to benefit the American Heart Association. Also during February we are providing a prize drawing for a chance to win a $250 Gift Certificate to Healthtrax in Enfield.” said Myrijam Meserve, manager/CEO, for the credit union based in Enfield, Conn.

The “Go Red” movement was created to build awareness of heart disease and stroke as the No. 1 killer of women in the United States, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined. According to the AHA, education about the differences in the warning signs for men and women could save many women's lives.

Funds raised for the AHA will help support critical cardiovascular health research and educational programs aimed at increasing women's awareness.
