With or without a wig, Greater Nevada Credit Union staffers proved they were rock stars in their fundraising efforts for the Special Olympics Nevada Polar Plunge.

Playing off this year's Rock and Roll Extravaganza theme, eight employees dressed as rock stars for the annual pancake eating contest. Each year staffers battle to claim the ultimate title of Pancake Eating Champion as a way to support local Special Olympics atheletes.

special olympics nevada greater nevada credit union pancake eating contestThe team devoured more than 74 pancakes in three minutes, as other staffers cheered them on and donated money while enjoying their own hearty breakfast before beginning their work day. Other fundraising festivities have included a soda shop and another pancake eating contest challenge against members of the University of Nevada Wolf Pack Marching Band in Reno has been slated for later this month.

So far a total of $500 has been raised for the Special Olympics Nevada Polar Plunge. 

"Our staff is really into this fundraiser," Greater Nevada EVP/CFO and board member of Special Olympics Nevada and Northern California Joyce Whitney-Silva said. "The costumes are fun, the food is delicious, and it's all for a good cause. There's so much energy and comradery." 

The 2016 Special Olympics Polar Plunge will be held on March 19 at Zephyr Cove, Nev. Plungers commit to raising a minimum of $125, of which all proceeds go toward supporting local Special Olympics Nevada athletes and programs.
